I missed volume one first time round but was, to say the least, delighted to hear the unmistakeable bass line from Okay Temiz's Dokuz Seki on the opening track to this second collection of international cover versions given a shakedown by way of some breaks-style drumming and a heavy dose of psychedelia. Highlights are the Turkish freakout of the aforementioned opener, the Ennio-Morricone-meets-David-Axelrod cinematic groove of Adimiz Miskindir Bizim (Mahzar Ve Fuat) and the psychedelic staccato punch of New Track (Francis Bebey), though the whole thing is an aural treat from start to finish. Looking for something different? Look no further, Subtropic is where it's at.
